The Jackson County Jail was built in 1981 and has 315 beds. Past analyses have indicated the county would have to build a jail with around 800 beds to meet its needs, according to Jackson County Administrator Danny Jordan.

In Jackson County, a man accused of sexually abusing his girlfriend's 8-year-old daughter was sentenced on Wednesday to 25 years in prison.
Zackery Martinez, 25, of Central Point also was placed on lifetime supervision for his guilty plea to charges of first-degree rape and first-degree sodomy. Read More »
The traditional Halloween trick or treating event in downtown Grants Pass is getting a bit of a makeover this year, with a new name and an added costume contest.
The newly named Main Street Monster March will take place on Friday, with downtown merchants passing out candy and treats between 3 and 5 p.m.
The costume contest will be at 5:30 p.m. in the parking lot of the future Children's Museum, at Fourth and G streets.
